Synposis:

Sanai Choughade is a story of a girl called Sayee and her unique marriage.

Sayee lost her father at a very young age. Sayee’s mother played a pivotal role in bringing her up single handedly. Sayee belongs to a small town in Belgaum. She became an orphan and is rendered completely lonely after her mother’s death. Sayee’s mother being aware of the terminal nature of her illness, entrusts Sayee to her niece Urmila and her husband Srikant, along with the funds saved for her marriage.

After her mother’s death, Sayee starts living with Urmila and Srikant in Pune. Urmila and Srikant, a childless couple, are financially well off and belong to the upper strata of the society. They are happy to assume Sayee’s full responsibility as her guardians and get her married in a traditional Maharashtrian manner. The search for a right match for Sayee intensifies as Srikant is offered to take up an assignment in the US.

Srikant and Urmila get a taste of the bitter sweet experiences of the traditional Maharashtrian way of arranged marriage system. Themselves having gone for love marriage, are new to the circus of arranged marriage, in which caste, creed, skin colour, habits are deemed absolutely important. They are dejected to realize that relatively simple seeming exercise of marriage is in fact a very tedious process. Things take a turn for worse, when Sayee’s past comes into foreground, making her marriage further difficult.

Kaande Pohe- a new way of matrimonial search, equipped with the latest technology and marketing techniques, needed for matchmaking turns out to be an answer for Sayee’s problems. Through this institution, Sayee’s marriage is almost finalized. The worse is however yet to come. Forgetting her romantic encounter from the past, Aditya, a prospective groom, accepts her and is ready to marry her. However, every body is shocked and aghast to learn that Sayee is an unwed mother.

After this thunderous revelation, what happens to Sayee? How does Aditya react? What happens to Urmila and Srikant’s reputation and prestige? “Nothings impossible” as claimed by the matchmaker, what happens of his Kaande Pohe institution? Is Kaande Pohe able to get a suitable match for an unwed mother?

Sanai Choughade Pohe is a film which stems from social sarcasm, internal conflict and emotional upheaval. It is a light hearted family entertainer, which will make each one introspect.

Really, you rarely get to see a movie like Sinhsan. It is definately one of the classic movies in the history of Marathi Cinema.

Packed with a high class political drama performed at the background of the powerful Chair of Maharashtra Chief Minister, enacted by now and then ’’actors’’ of marathi film industry like Nilu Phule, Shriram Lagoo, Arun Sarnaik,Nana Patekar, Satish Dubhashi. One can watch the slim and trim Rima Lagoo looking elegant in her younger days.

Directed by the much celebrated Marathi Director Dr. Jabbar Patel who has till date has directed so many political backdropped marathi movies had crafted another landmark marathi picture.

The storyline : As described earlier, the movie revolves around the 1970’s political scene in Maharashtra. This movie characterises the activities happening around the life of one very high profile political journalist, played by one of the Marathi veteran actor Shri Niloo Phule.

Ok....now what is the movie all about. The entire plot is for showing the permutations and combinations occur for grabbing the coveted post of CM of Maharsahtra.

The present CM is having a ruling majority in the Assembly but his own party is plaqued by severe differences based on personal and regional aspirations.

There is one union leader named D’Casta who is a significant considering his weight among the worker community.

There is one other strong leader in the CM’s party who is making all the efforts to take over the CM’s seat.

There also a few other characters like a very young Nana Patekar shown as a small time criminal also add to the impact.

The journalist being a person who believes in good values that exist in life is witness to all these hopping, revolts, flip-flops happening. He observes all the things and the impact of all these activities is beautifully crafted by Shri Niloo phule.

The interesting part is the ending of this movie followed by wonderful but equally deep meaning song ’’Ush:kaal hota hota kalratra zali, are punha aayushyanchya petva mashali’’

This song carries that kind of meaning which makes ponder over the happenings after we got freedom. The meaning goes like this : Before it could dawn, the night of death has arrived. Come on, we will have to fire up our lives again.

Acting: The people seen in this movie were really all actors / actresses rather than a hero or a heroine. Shri Niloo Phule do full justic to his role as usual.
Arun Sarnaik, the CM does the cunning character so beautifully that one thinks that its just a character played by the real CM himself. Shriram Lagoo, Satish Dubhashi do justice to their roles and live up to the high standards they they have set. The modern Mom of Salman Khan i.e. Rima Lagoo, looks suave.

Career Guide for aspiring politicians : This movie scribbles a perfect guide for the young aspiring politicians. The twists and turns that the high profile political rooms observe is perfectly depicted in this movie.

The Govt. is compelled to send more army officials to capture him and put an end to the terror he has caused among the Officers. To continue to carry his task forward, he is asked to go into hiding as Kashikar Bhooaa by his colleagues. A losing battle against the British takes him to Andhra Pradesh where he initiates ties with Ismail community and they decide to employ people as army officials and make a new army of their own to fight against the Britishers. Deteriorating health, ending rainy season and deception by the local Vaidya (doctor) lead to his imprisonment. Unending torturous life in the prison of Eden jail finally takes away this great martyr to the doors of death.
